The Hunter Wetlands Centre Australia offers a range of school holiday activities including supervised programs, canoe adventures and children's theatre. Activities will accommodate the weather and most will go ahead rain, hail or shine - bring your raincoat and gumboots!

Mondays*
Cool Creey Crawlies (4-7yrs)
With more than one million species on the planet, you will have a busy morning exploring the insect world with our leaders. Play games, be transformed into a beetle or butterfly.
Please be sure to wear closed in shoes& bring a hat, morning tea & water bottle.

Photography Day (7-12yrs)
Do your kids have an interest in photography? Hunter Region school of Photography leads the way with the expertise as they take us through the exciting world of photography and encourage new generation of wildlife photographers. Must bring your own camera, don't forget a clear memory card & spare batteries. Please be sure to wear closed in shoes & bring a hat. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are included.

Tuesdays
Adventure Day (7-12yrs)
For those kids who love getting out amongst the great outdoors. Orienteering and canoeing with a twist! Please wear covered shoes, hat & bring water bottle. Morning tea, lunch & afternoon tea included.

Wacky Wetland Tour
Get wild & wacky and take a peek behind the scenes. Learn more about wildlife on site with hand on demonstrations with our wacky professor. Please wear covered shoes, bring a hat, morning tea & water bottle.

Wednesdays
Bird Beaks (4-7yrs)
There are so many different kinds of bird beaks! Some are long & skinny, some are short & curved, others like big spoons! Explore the bird world, play some games and make a puppet. Please wear covered shoes, bring a hat, morning tea & water bottle.

Art Day - (7-12yrs)
Week One - Wed 29th Sept.
Get out & about, learn to draw brids and animals, make a flip book and after lunch go crazy with the bird box relay. Whoever thought learning to draw would be so much fun!
Week Two - Wed 6th Oct
Patterns in nature, rubbings, stamping... Experiment with things that are normally small (ants) are drawn huge and large things are drawn small.Nothing is as it seems!
Please be sure to wear covered shoes, bring a hat & water bottle. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea included.

Suburban Hero's (10-14yrs)
Want to be a hero & help save the environment? Why not start at the Hunter Wetlands Centre! Meet some wildlife that may be sharing your area & learn to attract more. Learn about planting native plants from our Biodiversity officer & what it takes to create a healthy environment. Then take on the exciting canoe challenge in the afternoon. Please wear closed in shoes, long sleeves, a hat & bring a water bottle. Morning tea, lunch & afternoon tea provided.

Junior Wetlanders (4-7yrs)
Our experienced staffers will lead kids adverntures, games, crafts and exploration - guaranteed they'll be back for more! Please wear covered shoes and bring a hat, morning tea & water bottle.

Flutterbies Art Day (7-12yrs)
Week One - Fri 1st Oct
Join our artists & observe & draw butterflies & other six legged creatures that fly. Create a mobile or wings to take home. Join an orienteering adventure walk and collect treasure trove of rubbings.
Week Two - Fri 8th Oct
Explore the world of dragonflies. Lots of different things throughout the day to create and make with fun and games along the way.
Please wear covered shoes and a hat & bring a watter bottle. Morning tea, lunch & afternoon tea included.

Theatre at the Wetlands
Shakespeare et al and the Wetlands Centre Shortland present an exciting school holiday program of original children’s theatre with limited seasons for schools offered in the last week of each school term.
The magical version of ‘Titania's Fairies’ will delight audiences in April. Shakespeare et al's delectible presentation of 'Hansel and Gretel' will enthrall audiences in July and a new and exciting show 'The Frog Prince' will envliven the wetlands in the September holidays.
The Frog Prince - Sept/ Oct
The Frog Prince is Shakespeare et al's lates offering for their popular school holiday program at the Hunter Wetlands Centre. Following the success of Wind in the Willows, Titania's Fairies adn Hansel & Gretel this adaptation has similarly been crafted to utilise the magnificent outdoor setting. With puppetry, song and environmental themes this production written and directed by Anne Frost is sure to delight the whole family.
