World Environment Day

Celebrate World Environment Day at Hunter Wetlands Centre

World Environment Day is an International Day to celebrate the environment.  The theme for 2023 is: Solutions to Plastic Pollution

Wetlands are a vital part of our environment, one of their many values is to filter storm water and run off as water moves off the land to the ocean. Pollution, including micro plastics and plastic rubbish is trapped in the vegetation as the water moves through the water plants and reeds.

Sunday 4 June from 10am to 12 noon at Hunter Wetlands Centre

  • – Plant grasses around the ponds to help trap plastic pollutants.
  • – Join a guided canoe tour. Cost $15 + entry. Bookings essential by phoning the Visitor Centre on 49516466.
  • – Dipnet the macroinvertebrates in the ponds to check pond health.
  • – Discover the values of wetlands.
  • – Meet some of the creatures that could be harmed by plastic pollution
  • 11am reptile encounter – children – 2 years and over $5 + entry.
  • – Enjoy the Art Exhibition Ways, Winds and Water, celebrating our environment (ongoing).
